51-acre unused site to be transformed into a neighbourhood of 2,500 homes [Deadline 10 November]
The Fourth Yards Public Sector Partnership, compromising of Homes England and its Public Sector Partners, Newcastle City Council, the North East Combined Authority, and Network Rail Infrastructure Limited, are searching for a long-term development partner for an unused site.
The 51-acre brownfield site, Forth Yards Quayside West, has been out of use for 20-years and now been earmarked by the government as one of four locations for fast-track house building.
£121.8 million in funding has been secured to prepare the site for its planned transformation into a new neighbourhood.
The first phase focuses on Quayside West and its associated infrastructure such as Forth Goods Yard, Pottery Lane East, Pottery Lane West, Quayside West, Newcastle Utilita Arena and Newcastle Heliport. Procurement for this will be led by Homes England who will work closely alongside the sought partner and Fourth Yards Public Sector Partnership.
As a major gateway to Newcastle, the plans should align with the vision of the Forth Yards Scheme as an attractive place to live and work, connected via the road, rail and metro. There is a plan for 1,100 new homes at Quayside West, totalling 2,500 across the whole site.
There’s possibility of future development by the partners which should be considered in the proposed procurement for phase one.
