The leisure-focused cable car is to be updated for a better customer experience [Deadline 8 April 2026]
TfL are seeking a delivery partner to refresh the visitor journey for the London cable car, a 10-minute journey over the River Thames from Royal Docks to Greenwich Peninsula.
At this stage, early market engagement is being sought to provide feedback on a procurement strategy for the London Cable Car Customer Enhancements project.
Reinvented as a tourist destination after failing to attract a large number of commuters, the ambition is to transform the leisure destination in order to extend visitor duration and increase revenue beyond the existing London Cable Car Experience.
The cable car currently offers special tickets with higher crossing prices for the 10-minute journey such as the glass floor experience in a modified cable car and a special champagne service.
Since it’s opening in 2012, roughly 14,000,000 trips have been made across the 1km span and it has capacity to move 5,000 people per hour.
It was built to transform the area around the O2 Arena and Excel Exhibition and Conference Centre as part of major regeneration works at the time of the London Olympics.
The future, revamped customer experience could include redevelopment of the South Terminal to create a more "immersive, experience-led environment".
The Market Sounding Questionnaire is available upon request. Interested parties should email hannahhinchliffe@tfl.gov.uk.
