Grade II Listed Huers Hut to receive funding from National Lottery Heritage for sustainable development [Deadline 20 January 2026]
The 19th Century Huers Hut in St Ives is a remnant of the pilchard fishing industry where the ‘Huer’ would give signals to boats from this shelter.
The two-storey stone and slate building requires works to stabilise the roof and walls and establish its future place in the community.
St Ives Town Council is seeking submissions for a programme which is considerate of the building’s heritage and follow visitor engagement to establish its legacy.
Set in a residential area along the Southwest Coast Path, providing views across St Ives Bay, the hut is much loved by tourists and residents alike, but the economic sustainability of the site is also key.
This phase of the scheme is being funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Town Council, with further applications to follow to support the projects delivery.
